George McMahon, a coal miner (curiously listed as “colliery owner” in 1911 census), was born on 23 February 1870 in Dungannon, Tyrone, the son of Mary and Owen. He had two sons with Mary McMahon between 1902 and 1903 – both born in Lanarkshire, Scotland where one assumes he was living at that time.
In the 1911 census, his brother Peter – a miner – was living with him in Durham and there was also a lodger called James Loughran, also a coal miner and a widower from County Monaghan. His wife was from Durham. So they had moved from Scotland to Durham. He died in 1925 at the age of 55.
